Back in 1996, I became curious about the Florida lottery after noticing some interesting trends in the way the numbers were drawn. Since then, I have been a firm believer that lottery drawings can be predicted by some form of mathematical means! The ultimate goal of this project is to provide a software tool that can analyize a drawing history and provide the best possible means to predict future drawings based upon past drawing performance. My belief is that because the drawing method is predictable (machine design, ball sizes, etc.) future drawings are predictable as well. With that conclusion in mind, a software dream was born into reality.

Back then, software development came under a DOS based program called quickbasic. At that time the general idea of the AI engine was born for manipulating the rules to attempt to find the best possible solution for predicting drawings. Over the years I have set aside the source code and pursued other endeavors. Now I have returned to the code for another major effort, porting it to VB 6.0 in the process. I have since added more functionality to the searching function but the basic rules designed from the initial program have still stayed the same. I have many visions for the direction of this project but I am willing to allow others to become a part of this project and help make it become a reality.

I am so excited about releasing WIN Hunter and the source code under the GNU open source license. Maybe sometime in the future I will have a more permanent home for the site as well as for the source code and patches and/or updates that you and I might come up with.

In the mean time, I will work on making the interface of WIN Hunter more acceptible to growth and change. I anticipate many suggestions and user provided source code enhancements. It will be hard right now for a user to add a new rule to the initial 9 that exist in winhunters, due to the GUI interface. But I have ideas to solve those issues as well.

An even greater goal is to have a central repository for successful prediction settings to be stored. It would be a waste for thousands of users not to be sharing their already tested and proven/disproven filter stacks. I must give credit for this idea to the SetiAtHome project. Their software utilizes the user's computer and processes a small amount of data and uploads the results to a central server. Thousands of users give up unused CPU time to this project and I hope to move this project in that direction as well. But that type of program would require a dedicated server and a dedicated internet connection for the sole purpose of collecting user processed data.

On a final note, WIN Hunter will continue to grow and change as time and user input will allow. You can have an impact on what future WIN Hunter has!

At this point in the development process, I really can not give anyone, other than my wife, credit for giving any input into the design or programming of WIN Hunter. She has listened to my ramblings thus far and will continue on. Even though she doesn't really grasp the whole concept I still love her for putting up with me!

Finally, after several months of grueling testing and bug fixes and speed enhancements the source code is released! From there, I struggled to decide if I wanted to sell WIN Hunter in it's infant form, or shareware or even release it as open source. This site became the result of my decision to open the source code to the general public.

The site itself is also still in its infancy but as time goes by will grow as well. I hope to see a steady stream of visitors and a nice base of users that will provide awesome feedback that will propell this project to the next level. Maybe even some of those users might have a nack for web development and will want to design a better site!
